Abstract
The preponderance of video content in internet traffic, a consequence of increasing digitalisation, has given rise to a significant body of research exploring the use of explanatory videos in the context of foreign language learning. These videos, characterised by their concise and intuitive presentation of complex concepts, employ a variety of multimedia elements to facilitate understanding. Their efficacy in conveying information has led to their widespread adoption in educational settings. The paper focuses on the analysis of explanatory videos on German phonetics, in particular on prosody, and examines their potential receptive and productive application. An initial theoretical part is followed by an analysis of explanatory videos used in the teaching of German prosody in order to highlight their strengths, which will be followed by useful tips to promote their use in the teaching of German as a foreign language.
