Abstract
This paper examines the development of German phonetics and contrastive German-Italian prosody within the context of German as a Foreign Language (GFL) instruction. It offers an overview of the historical evolution of research and teaching practices in German phonetics throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries, with particular attention to the extent to which prosodic features and contrastive aspects have been incorporated into pronunciation teaching in Italy. The paper also analyses the methodological approaches adopted in this context. The findings provide insights into prosody-oriented pronunciation training in GFL and highlight the significance of contrastive phonetics and prosody in foreign language education.
