Abstract
What tools can poetry deploy to interpret or rather reinterpret a work of art, and why have so many poets felt such an exceptional attraction to the work of Constantin Brâncuși? What drove rhymers to devote extensive, precious pages to the great Romanian artist throughout the 20th century? From this perspective, the example of Lucian Blaga’s poem Pasărea sfântă [The Sacred Bird] emerges. It was first published in 1926 in the journal Gândirea [The Thinking] and subsequently reprinted in 1929 in the volume Laudă somnului [In Praise of Sleep]. The aim of this study is to analyze, from an interpretative perspective, the poem where Brâncuși’s aesthetic conception meets Blaga’s poetics and belief, creating a brilliant example of art within art. The main source is the material from the Rosa Del Conte archive, which offers us an engaging interpretation.
