Abstract

This article conducts a comparative analysis between Tommaso Landolfi’s poetic translations from Russian and his original poetry. The primary objective is to explore whether, in terms of meter, there are points of convergence between the translator and the poet. The first section delves into an examination of Landolfi’s metrical adaptation strategy in his renditions of Fedor Tyutchev’s lyrical works. His ‘rhythmical versions’ are scrutinized in the context of their dual relationship with both the Russian and Italian poetic traditions. In the second part of the essay, the findings of this analysis are juxtaposed with the results of a metrical analysis of Viola di morte (Landolfi’s inaugural poetry collection). This comparison reveals substantial metrical congruence between the translator and the poet.
