Abstract
This paper examines the web series Ritals, created and distributed by YouTuber Svevo Moltrasio between 2015 and 2021, which humorously portrays the lives of Italians in Paris (France). From a sociolinguistic perspective, the series showcases a diverse linguistic repertoire: Italian in its various diatopic (regional) and diastratic (social) forms, French in dynamic interaction with Italian (through code-switching, code-mixing, borrowings, and calques), and occasional instances of other languages (English, Spanish, German, Greek) reflecting the cosmopolitan environment of the main characters. Analyzing such varieties in Ritals not only highlights the linguistic features of the series but also sheds light on broader aspects of contemporary Italian migration, particularly the phenomenon known as the “brain drain.”
